Website policy

Terms of Use

Applies to the Buttercup’s Baking Society website only.
Last updated: 1 August 2026  ·  Effective date: TODO:REPLACE — date the site goes live

The short version. This website is a shop window, not a shop. You cannot buy anything on it, and nothing here forms a contract. Orders are agreed directly with the bakery by phone or text, and the terms of your actual order are whatever you and the bakery agree at that point.

1. Accepting these terms

By using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please don’t use the site — you’re still very welcome to call the bakery.

2. What this website is

This site is informational. It describes what Buttercup’s Baking Society bakes, roughly what it costs and how to get in touch. It does not take payment, hold accounts, confirm availability or accept bookings, and no part of it commits the bakery to fulfilling any particular order.

3. Orders are agreed separately

Submitting the contact form or calling the bakery is a request, not a confirmed order. An order exists only once the bakery has confirmed it directly with you, including the item, the date and the price. Until then nothing is reserved.

TODO:REPLACE — add the bakery’s actual order terms: deposit requirements, how far in advance orders must be placed, the cancellation and refund policy, and what happens if a collection is missed. These are the terms most likely to be needed in a dispute, and the website cannot infer them.

4. Prices

The site states that most orders land between $10 and $30. That is a general guide to help you judge whether to get in touch — it is not a quotation and not an offer. Size, decoration, flavour and timing all affect the final figure, and the only binding price is the one the bakery confirms to you for your specific order.

5. Photography on this site

Please read this one. The photographs currently on this website are licensed stock images used to illustrate the style and range of what the bakery makes. They are not photographs of Buttercup’s Baking Society’s actual products, kitchen, staff or customers. Your order will not be an exact reproduction of any image shown here. Full source details for every image are recorded in the project’s IMAGE_SOURCES.md file.

Where a custom design is agreed, the bakery will describe or sketch what is achievable rather than guaranteeing a match to a photograph.

6. Reviews shown on this site

The quotations in the "Kind words" section are clearly labelled on the page as sample testimonials written to demonstrate layout. They are not real customer reviews, they are not attributed to real people, and they are not drawn from Google, Yelp, Facebook or any other review platform. They must be replaced with genuine, permissioned customer feedback before the site is presented as a live business website.

7. Food, allergens and safety

Nothing on this website is an allergen statement. Baked goods commonly contain wheat, eggs, dairy, nuts and soy, and a home kitchen is a shared space in which cross-contact is possible. If you have an allergy or intolerance, speak to the bakery directly before ordering and rely on what it tells you, not on this site.

TODO:REPLACE — the owner must supply the bakery’s actual allergen position, including a shared-kitchen disclosure and any cottage-food labelling or registration statement required where the bakery operates.

8. The contact form

The form on the home page is a draft. It checks that the fields are filled in and then displays a confirmation message. It does not send, store or transmit anything, and no one receives what you type into it. Until that changes, please use the phone number for anything you actually need a reply to.

9. Links to other websites

The site is intended to link out to the bakery’s existing ordering service once that address is supplied. Any such service is operated by a third party under its own terms and privacy policy, and Buttercup’s Baking Society is not responsible for its content, availability or handling of your information.

10. Intellectual property

The Buttercup’s Baking Society name, logo and the wording of this site belong to the bakery and may not be reproduced without permission. Stock photographs remain the property of their respective photographers and are used under the Pexels License. The two typefaces used are open-source and licensed for web use.

11. Acceptable use

Please don’t attempt to disrupt, scrape, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site, and don’t use it to send unlawful, abusive or misleading content.

12. Availability and accuracy

The site is provided as-is. The bakery aims to keep it accurate but does not guarantee it will always be available, error-free or up to date — descriptions, prices and lead times can change, and the bakery may update or withdraw any part of the site at any time.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Buttercup’s Baking Society is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of this website. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

This clause concerns the website. Liability relating to food supplied to you is a matter for your order terms and for applicable consumer and food-safety law, and is not limited here.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of TODO:REPLACE — state or jurisdiction the business operates in, and disputes will be handled in the courts of that jurisdiction.

15. Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will change when they are, and continuing to use the site means accepting the current version.

16. Contact

Questions about these terms: (817) 455-8667, or TODO:REPLACE — contact email.
